
ACOnet is the Austrian Academic Computer Network (NREN) for science, research, education and culture. ACOnet offers its members high-performance access via GÉANT to international academic networks, as well as the Internet.
ACOnet and CESNET are supporting, with their optical networks, a research project regarding a new method of accurate time signal transfers between atomic clocks.

Students invited to TERENA Networking Conference
ACOnet switches with routing capabilities in Vienna, Graz, Linz, Salzburg, Innsbruck, Klagenfurt, Leoben and Eisenstadt are connected with Gigabit Ethernet over DWDM-technology. With this infrastructure and the appropriate network protocols all ACOnet members have powerful connectivity to the global Internet and to different network services in Austria. The PoPs in Linz, Salzburg, Innsbruck, Klagenfurt and Graz are connected to Vienna in a redundant manner via DWDM rings. [more]
The „ACOnet-AAI Federation“, in cooperation with interested ACOnet Participants, is offering a pilot service for federated Access- and Identity Management. The federation is based on SAML 2.0 (as implemented in e.g. Shibboleth or simpleSAMLphp). It has emerged from, and incorporates experience gained, when setting up Vienna University's Authentication and Authorization Infrastructure (AAI). [more]
eduroam stands for "Education Roaming" and allows users of participating institutions to access the Internet at other participants using their home institution's credentials. All this with a minimal adminstrative overhead. Depending on local policies at the visited institutions, eduroam participants may also have additional resources at their disposal. [more]
