Technical
What is "Class of Service" (COS)?
Class of Service (CoS) is a mechanism to mark data packets depending from where they come from. Data packets coming from commodity sources are limited to the subscribed bandwidth (+ max. 200% burst capacity). Data packets marked as scientific are not limited by ACOnet, but only by the capacity of the last-mile link to the participant. more information about COS
How can I contact the ACOnet Network Operations Center (NOC)?
Either per e-mail at noc(at)aco.net or during our office hours (Mo-Fr 6:00 AM - 3:00 PM UTC) under the phone number +43 1 4277 14030. Out of working hours exclusively in case of emergency you can leave a message which will inform the ACOnet-Operators. In sufficiently urgent cases an operator will get back to you. contact information
I have a question regarding a domain name, where should I ask?
If your question concerns .ac.at domains, please ask the domain administration department of the University of Vienna: domain-admin(at)univie.ac.at. In case your question concerns an .at domain, you can not ask ACOnet, but the registrar nic.at.
TLS/SSL Certificates - TERENA Certificate Service (TCS)
How can I apply for a Certificate?
To apply for a certificate fill in the online form. A portal account is not necessary. Assistance can be found at: TCS-Help (german only). After sending this request a TSC Administrator of your organization will decide about acceptance or denial of your certificate. You will be notified via e-mail.
I cannot find my organization in the selection list. What shall I do?
To be listed there a supplemental agreement has to be signed by the ACOnet participant and ACOnet.
If you are not staff member of the IT department of your organization, please ask first there whether such an agreement has been sigend.
For IT-Staff:
If you have already sent the agreement to ACOnet and didn't get a reply for several days, please contact admin(at)aco.net or: +43-1-4277-14030
What purpose has the field "e-mail groupaddress for notifications" in the webform?
In case a certificate is expiring, the requester will be notified by e-mail. To ensure that this mail will reach the right contacts (eg. the e-mail address of the requester is out of use) this groupaddress gives us the possibility to inform a group of people about the expiration.
Which requirements does the ACOnet Certificate Service have?
ACOnet TCS Certificates are exclusively for ACOnet Participants. For that purpose a supplemental agreement is necessary. This agreement (ACO-Certificates_v2.pdf) has to be filled in and signed by an authorized person of the ACOnet participant. In addition it has to be send by mail to ACOnet. Our postal address can be found on the contact page. To fill in this form completely 2 people of the ACOnet participant have to own a portal account or apply for one to become TCS Administrator. (see the next question: What is a TCS Administrator?)
What is a TCS Administrator?
TCS Administrators have a special site in the ACOnet Portal where they can accept oder deny applied certificates of their ACOnet participant. To use the Certificate Service an ACOnet participant has to nominate 2 TCS Administrators in the supplemental agreement.
Do I need a portal account to apply for a certificate?
No, to apply for a TCS certificate a portal account is not necessary. The webform is situated in the public area of the ACOnet website at: webform
My finished Certificate is being rejected by the browser. What can I do?
Most probably you have forgotten to link the intermediate certificates. Please follow the instructions in the TCS-Help (german only). it is essentially important that both intermediate certificates are linked on the server.
Internet Explorer rejects my certificate, whereas Firefox accepts it.
Browsers do cache various certificates in various ways. In this case it is most probable, that firefox had the intermediate certificates in the cache already and therefore it could verify the certificate. (view TCS-Help - german only)
I got problems with Intermediate Certificates under Windows IIS. What can I do?
Comodo has provided a guide to solve this problem: Comodo Support
Is it possible to request wildcard-zertificates?
No. The TCS does not support wildcard certificates.
