Services
On top of the powerful backbone connection, ACOnet provides its participants quite a number of services.
ACOnet presently offers the following services:
- Internet Connectivity
- Local Internet Registry (LIR)
- VCampus Student Dormitory connection
- Including the NightLine, which allows an eight times exceeded bandwidth during night
- ACOnet Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT)
- The ACOnet-CERT helps participants in preventing security related incidents. It handles reported security problems within ACOnet and coordinates counteractive measures.
- Administration of TLS/SSL Server Certificates based on the TERENA Certificate Service (TCS)
- Worldwide valid and accepted certificates without license costs
- Administration of the domain ac.at
- eduroam
- The Wireless-LAN roaming infrastructure of the european National Research Networks (NRENs) allowing users of participating institutions to connect easily at any eduroam hotspot in Europe
- IPv6
- Federated Authentication and Authorization Infrastructure (AAI)
- NetNews Service
- Timeserver
- Recursive Nameserver
- Web Portal
- Virutal private networks
- Virtual networks separated from the regular traffic for specific applications (e.g. VoIP, Multicast) or user closed groups (e.g. governmental institutions)
- LightPath-Services
- Virtual temporary dedicated lines for international projects requiring steady performance
